The School Nutrition Association (SNA) Wins MarCom Award for Outstanding Website Redesign

(ATS®) announced today that its client, the School Nutrition Association (SNA), was selected out of over 6,500 entries from over 200 categories and 17 countries to receive a Gold MarCom Award for its successful website redesign. The MarCom Awards is judged by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals, which sets standards of excellence for the creative sector.

The School Nutrition Association (SNA) is a national, nonprofit professional organization representing more than 55,000 members who provide high-quality, low-cost meals to students across the U.S. Through education and advocacy, SNA is recognized as the authority on school nutrition and has been working to make school nutrition programs an integral part of education.

In 2013, SNA embarked on a redesign project to bring a fresh look and mobile-friendly functionality to its website: SchoolNutrition.org. ATS was selected to lead the effort due to its extensive experience with the Ektron content management system (CMS) and the Aptify association management system (AMS), as well as strong expertise in usability and information architecture consolidation.

The goal of the redesign was to provide SNA’s members and visitors a user-focused, engaging, mobile-friendly website that adheres to modern web standards.

The ATS team collaborated with SNA stakeholders to:

  • Conduct focus group card sorting exercises to inform the new site’s information architecture/site map;

  • Lead a full discovery process, including usability testing;

  • Deliver a modern design with mobile-friendly features;

  • Implement a new information architecture with topic and audience-based navigation;

  • Upgrade the site to the latest version of the Ektron CMS and integrate it with the Aptify AMS;

  • Incorporate powerful social sharing for improved content distribution; and

  • Develop a microsite schema within the parent SNA website for its numerous conferences, events, and meetings.

Completed in July 2014, the new website accomplished SNA’s goals, bringing:

  • A clean, fresh, and vibrant look with dynamic visuals;

  • A mobile-friendly site that gives users simplified access to information regardless of their devices;

  • Simplified website maintenance and content updates through a centralized CMS and consolidated microsites; and

  • Increased interactivity through quick access to SNA’s social media channels, enhanced search, and intuitive navigation.
