ATS Employee Feature – Brisbane B.

Every month, ATS will share the talent and hard work that we call our team. From managed help-desk and NOC, UX/UI design, consulting, sales, accounting, and more – we pause to get a little bit personal, showcasing the faces behind the technology solutions we work on each day. This week we meet ATS Project Manager, Software Development Services, Brisbane B.

1. What was your first job? Tell us about it

I’ve had the typical teenager/college student jobs working at restaurants and hotels. My major in college was Hospitality so I thought I would forever be in that industry. But as I got older, I realized I loved the stability of the traditional 9-5. Out of college, my first job was working as a recruiting coordinator for AOL. I was in charge of new hire orientation and putting together offer letters and packages. It was a perfect first job because it allowed me to still be in a ‘customer service’ type of role and I loved the laid back culture of the company. The biggest bonus was that the commute was about 5 minutes (and my sister worked there too).

2. Who has influenced you most in your professional path/career?

Personally, it has been my parents. I grew up in a strict household where giving 100% was always more important than just getting good grades. My parents always stressed the importance of finding a job where I could be happy, personally. They never pushed their ideals on me so I never felt pressured to find a job based on what could make me the most money or give me a prestigious title. They gave me the confidence to dance to the beat of my own drum.

Professionally, my mentor at a previous job has influenced me the most. She was the first person I’ve ever worked with that pushed me to do more because she truly believed in my abilities. She reminded me a lot of my parents in that she always did what she felt was right for her.

3. What’s your favorite part about working in the Technology industry?

It’s always evolving and there’s never a dull moment. There’s always a new challenge right around the corner.

4. Looking back, what career advice would you tell your 18-year-old self?

Be louder and don’t be afraid to make waves.

5. What’s your favorite thing to go when you’re not working?

I love spending time with my husband and kids when I’m not working. I’ve also got a very close-knit family so I am often spending time with my sister and brother whenever possible. I also love to play poker but since the addition of children, that hobby gets very little attention!
